The Institute of Medical Informatics (IMI) belongs to the University of Münster. Its research efforts are mainly focused on the domains Health and Biomedical Informatics.

The working group "Health Informatics" is specialized in Electronic Health Records (EHR's), in particular single source information systems (DFG, BMBF and EU-funded projects). The IMI is responsible for piloting the EHR4CR platform (Electronic Health Records for Clinical Research) in 11 sites of 5 countries.

Within the working group "Biomedical Informatics" most important research projects are the Leukemia Gene Atlas, analysis of molecular signatures in leukemia (MILE-study with > 2000 microarrays, IRON-study: 454 data from 10 international labs), European Leukemia Network and COST action EuGESMA.

Previous experiences and profile of staff members

The IMI is directed by Professor Dr. Martin Dugas, board-certified Medical Informatics Professional with dual-degree in medicine and informatics. His team is a mixture of scientists with background in informatics, mathematics and medicine, forming a successful symbiotic relationship.
